The Turners Arms Mortimer (4.3m)

Pub-website RG7 3TW SU 645644
About fifteen miles from Newbury. Go through Headley or Brimpton, past the front of AWE, SO at the roundabout then first R to Mortimer. The pub is on the L in three miles.
A good place for sandwiches and pub meals including Thai cuisine. They serve decent draught beer.

From the pub, go back towards Newbury, cross the road and take the FP on the L. This drops steeply downhill and meets a track where turn R and follow up past farm buildings, over a crossing track, and down to meet a metalled road. Turn L and shortly L again on a track labelled 'Weak Bridge'. Go slightly downhill then up taking a L then a R at the top to emerge on the road by the Calleva car park. Take the FP that joins the anticlockwise circuit of Calleva, ignoring one ('not suitable for pushchairs') that enters Calleva, and follow the perimeter path outside the walls, passing the church on the L. Go forward on the lane, perhaps visiting the Amphitheatre. In about 200yds after this as it narrows and goes downhill, take some steps up to a FP on the L. This leads down a field, through a gate, over a plank bridge, up a cultivated field, over a stile and across grass into a wood, where the path can be muddy. At a plank bridge at the end of the wood, bear L across the grass to the end of a lane, which follow uphill past a stud farm. About 150yds after joining a metalled lane, take a FP on the L that leads back to the pub.
