The Swan, Compton (4.5m)
Go L out of the pub up Horn St and R at the T juction into Wallngford Rd. At the end, go under the (disused) railway bridge and turn R then bend L for about 900 yds to Crowfoot. Take the L path for 1400yds to join the Ridgeway, which follow W for some 1500yds. Just after recrossing the railway, turn L onto a wide ride towards Compton. After about 700yds your path diverges half R across arable land then turns slightly L beside the ride back into the village. Keep SO to rejoin the main street to find the pub.

About eleven miles from Newbury via the A34 which turn off SP Compton and East Ilsley, and bear L in East Ilsley to reach Compton in two miles.
After being called the Foinavon for some years, it has reverted to the Swan.
A largish pub/hotel, it provides a good menu every day, with a very good-value Seniors' lunch Mondays through Wednesdays.
