SU 384752 About ten miles from Newbury on the Lambourn valley road. The pub has now CLOSED but you may be able to park there, or elsewhere in the village. Nearest pubs for lunch the Queens Arms, East Garston a couple of miles towards Lambourn, or back to the Five Bells at Wickham. |
Leave the pub and go over the river towards Wantage. Turn L in 100 yds or so into Station Road, then bear R over a small stream, then go L past Mill House. You will come to a
FP that runs behind the houses parallel to the Wantage road. Follow this for
nearly a mile, until it reaches a farm track. Turn L on this, and follow the FP that bears slightly L
towards a point 150 yds to the R of the lowest point of the hedge at the end of the field. The path continues across the next field, crosses one track, and after a mile meets a second. Turn L
downhill, go through Maidencourt Farm, and just before meeting the River Lambourn, take the Lambourn Valley
Way, that brings you back to Great Shefford and the pub.
