The Spotted Dog Cold Ash (3.6m)

Pub-website RG18 9PR SU 513697
About five miles from Newbury. Take the A4 towards Thatcham, then the northern relief road to the Cold Ash turn off, where go about a mile up the hill to a sharp turning back to the R.
A popular pub that serves good beer, while the food is generally good and inexpensive (especially the Senior Citizens meals)!
The Castle adjacent to The Spotted Dog also serves very good and inexpensive food.

Take the lane between The Spotted Dog and The Castle, and follow it up to the road. Turn L for 250yds and take the track downhill on the R. At the T junction at the bottom , go L and immediately R down a FP through fields. It bears L and enters a wood at a stile. After 250yds, bear half R and pass buildings in a clearing. Keep SO for 400yds till you come out on a rough track, then go L. The track bears to the L and then sharply R. At this point leave it for a FP to the L, and keep SO as it becomes a track on entering a wood. Keep going forward up hill, when it becomes metalled (Bucklebury Alley, with des. res. on either side). Take a FP to the L near the top, which in 600yds meets the road from Cold Ash to Upper Bucklebury. 400yds along the road you will meet the FP down to the pub.
