The Rising Sun Stockcross (3.2m)

(Former-pub) RG20 8LG SU SU 433688
About four miles from Newbury on the upper Lambourn road B 4000. Take the A4 and after crossing the bypass, take the second turn off the roundabout.
The Rising Sun is now closed, but if you can park nearby, you can go on to the nearby Red House at Marsh Benham, or the Hare and Hounds at Speen, or the Halfway Inn on the A4.

Leave the pub by the back gate, pass the school on your R, and take a field gate on the L. At the other end of the field turn L on a track, ignore a turning to the R and follow the track that after 400 yards or so turns R downhill to the lower Lambourn road. Cross this and follow the path (CLOSED MID SEP UNTIL MID NOV 2019) that crosses the several branches of the River Lambourn. When you reach a crossing track, turn R and follow it for about a mile to Bagnor Manor. Make an acute turn to the R over a stile, and follow the FP through a field until it rejoins the river, and crosses it. Go up the lane to the lower Lambourn road and cross it to go up Snake Lane. After about 500 yards uphill, take the FP on the R and follow it uphill to its end. Then go forward on the metalled road to reach the pub.
