The George, Vernham Dean (3.3m)

Website-on-pub SP11 0JY SU 342566
About twelve miles from Newbury. Take the A343 towards Andover and turn right in Hurstbourne Tarrant, then go on four miles to Vernham Dean.
A largeish country pub that has decent draught beer and serves good sandwiches and bar meals.

Turn R out of the pub, then in about 200yds L up a lane. In another 250yds take the R fork and follow this uphill past a wood and through fields, and then through a short wooded section near the top of the hill. Then back into the open for about 500yds till you meet a metalled lane. In another 100yds this joins a road, where turn sharply back downhill to the R. Take a stile on the L that takes you to a FP that goes steeply downhill to a lane in the valley bottom. Here turn sharp R, follow the lane till it meets the road, and go forward to a T junction. Take the FP opposite that rises through the field and meets a crossing path in 500yds. Turn R and follow this FP over a lane, at first uphill then down to reach Vernham Dean in about 600yds. Turn L along either road to reach the pub in another 300yds.
