The George and Dragon, Wolverton Townsend (4.5m)

Pub RG26 5ST SU 565587
About ten miles from Newbury. Take the A338 towards Basingstoke, and after the Kingsclere by pass and the Sandford Springs golf club, take the second L turn signposted Wolverton Townsend. The pub is on the R about two miles down this road.
An isolated country pub that has decent draught beer and serves good sandwiches and bar meals. Now under new management.

Turn R out of the pub, then in about 600yds find a FP L along the side of a garden, passing sheds to a stile into fields. Follow the FP forward for about 800yds when it goes L across a plank bridge into a wood. In some 200yds the FP reaches a road, where turn L for 200yds to a gate on the R where a FP starts. Go forward, keeping to the L of the fields, and go through a field gate on the L then bear right, passing some ponds and follow the FP uphill between fences to emerge on a lane by a large house. Turn L and follow the lane past another house and a large spoil heap, and when the lane turns to the L, keep SO along a FP. This is joined by a chalky lane coming in from the R. Follow the lane for about 400yds, then take a FP on the L. Follow this through a field and a gap between woods, then bear L in a field and follow round the L hand side of this around the back of a bungalow, cross the drive to this, and go forward down a wide grassy lane. Follow the FP across a tussocky field to a rather high stile. From this, follow the track passing woods which after 700yds becomes a FP soon meeting a metalled road. Turn L for 150yds, then R onto a track into the woods. Go L at an intersection, and follow round in a curve to the R after which the track comes out past some cottages into Wolverton Townsend.
