The Furze Bush, Ball Hill (4.0m)
Walk about 100yds towards Newbury and turn R onto a FP
that seems to go through a private garden. The first stile is very awkward, but the adjacent automatic gate responds to pressure. The FP bears slightly R and joins the drive to a stud, but
follow SO to meet a road. Turn R and in 100yds L down a track that makes a circuit of a rather derelict
farm, then take the FP on the far side of the buildings. This goes slightly uphill over fields, then drops
down to join a road by the East Woodhay Village Hall. Turn L, take the R fork, and in 150yds go R over a
stile onto the FP that bears to the L over the field past the back of Rectory Farm to join a green lane
that comes out on the road by the side of the drive to the Old Rectory. Go R for 200yds, the R again onto
a FP by the side of an impressive wall. Follow the FP down into the dip and up the other side to a gate
and stile onto the road. Cross this and take the FP to Hayes Farm, where turn R onto the kinked track that
joins a metalled lane in 500yds. Go R and L for 400yds till this lane meets another at a T junction, then
L to find the FP on the other side. Follow this through a thick hedge to the R, then downhill to cross a
stream and in 200yds bear L and L again at the next stile. Go SO on this field path till it reaches a
metalled lane, and go SO to the T junction with Ball Hill Road, where turn R for the pub.
