The Calleva Arms, Silchester (3.6m)

Pub-website RG7 2PH SU 627621
About 13 miles from Newbury. Go past AWE Aldermaston, then R at the roundabout into Soke Road. Follow this to Silchester, and the Calleva Arms.
A largish pub, part of the Fuller's group, with a good selection of draught beers - Fullers and Gales Ales. The food is quite impressive.

Leave the pub and fork L along the road, taking a track on the R after some 300 yds (there is a handsome litter bin in front of it). Go through a wooden gate, and follow the broad path (the Brenda Parker Way) downhill for just over half a mile to a crossing track, where go L for another half mile passing a treatment plant to meet a hard gravel track. Turn R along this for about 400 yds and turn R onto the main N-S track through Pamber Forest. After 250 yds by a seat, you come to a crossing path (the Brenda Parker Way again) which follow for about 500 yds to a spot you passed before, and now take the FP half L over some tree roots into Lords Wood. Follow slightly uphill until you reach the corner of a housing development, where keep on the R side of the fence for about 250yds to a gate into the housing. Take the gravel path from this to the R, which passes through a gate and crosses drives to private houses and after about 1000yds emerges onto the road by the pub.
