Newbury Pub Walks

Fifty odd pub walks of between three and five miles, centred on Newbury, together with a guide to walking the Kennet and Avon Canal. .
This site was updated in 2023, mainly to keep up with the changes in pubs’ own websites, and the brewery and other websites that are linked. New pubs have been added while others have closed, and in some cases their walks remain. All pub pages include a postcode and map reference to suit those who travel by SatNav. There is an increasing tendency for pubs not to open on at least one weekday, usually a Monday: you can often find details on the linked websites. It’s a good idea for large parties to ‘phone the pub first anyway.
Note that the list of pubs is not exhaustive - they were chosen by the website designer, who is responsible for the comments on this site (but not for the pubs' own sites, or the pub directory sites). All routes suggested are either public rights of way, or permitted paths, but you can truncate or extend them by reference to the maps. Note that the site is provided in good faith and the website designer cannot be held responsible for any mishap to the user.
To use the site, from the Home Page select which area you want to go to, and then one of the pubs. Pubs in the county pages are now ordered from west to east, and links lead to pub pages with a photograph (click on this and you will go to the pub's website or to a website describing the pub where one is available) and brief appraisal of each, an OS map marked-up to show the walk and a brief description of it. The map scale is evident from the kilometre grid. Just print the page (hold down "ctrl" key and press "p") and take it with you. The K&A page is different; it stands alone as no map and little guidance are required, while the pub websites are linked directly, as is the National Rail Travel Planner.
